The Fight and Quest for Love

It was the 2nd beginning of man, when Jupiter ruled the heavens and earth with his wife Hera, the goddess of marriage. They had many beautiful children: Mercury, messenger god; Vulcan, god of forge; Athena, goddess of wisdom; Aphrodite, goddess of love and beauty; Mars, god of war; Diana, goddess of the hunt and protector of the animals; and many more. However, this was because Jupiter had many mistresses and women encounters. Juno would always find a way to wreak havoc on these women Jupiter had affairs with. The goddess also envied some of his daughters, but she envied one in particular, more than anything. Juno sought to destroy the young goddess.

One spring day, Jupiter was walking along the shores of Italy and came upon a beautiful palace. The palace of king Nephteus, he ruled over Italy at the time with his queen Elizabeth. Elizabeth was known for her great beauty and passion for others. She honored the gods and had shrines built dedicated to them. However, the Queen could not bear children. She constantly prayed and showed her gratitude to the gods in hopes they’d give her a child. At this time, Nephteus was away at war with another country and Elizabeth was left alone. Jupiter found the lonely woman in her garden weeping on her knees. He called to her and made his presence known. Elizabeth reverently bowed to the god and kissed his feet. Jupiter kissed the woman’s head and spoke “I have heard your prayers and felt your grief. Come, lay with me, and you will bear a child”. Elizabeth, too afraid to question or deny the god did upon which she was asked. Afterwards, Jupiter gathered his belongings and left her palace without a word. Nine months later a beautiful girl was presented into the world. She resembled Elizabeth greatly with dark brown curls, mocha skin, and hazelnut eyes. The child was named Bette, meaning “God’s promise” and a variant of the Queen’s own name.

When Juno learned of her husband’s infidelity she sought to have the baby destroyed at once. Jupiter stopped his wife and said if Juno was to harm either the queen or Bette he would punish the goddess. Juno, very intelligent and wicked, had other plans for the baby when she got older. She would challenge Bette everyday of her life until the demi-god begged for mercy. Juno would make it so the girl would want to die.

Bette wasn’t a normal girl. As she got older she began fighting with the boys outside of the palace in combat and play. The young girl begged her mother to let her possess a sword to practice combat and Elizabeth relented. Bette trained alongside of her older cousin, Avestus, a great warrior. Avestus was surprised at how well the young girl could maneuver with such speed and great dexterity. By the time Bette was a teenager she could out run the warrior and match him in sword battles. She was a truly gifted child with superhuman force and quickness. Those were not the only great attributes she contained, Bette possessed intelligence and wisdom. Athena had instilled these gifts in her sister when she visited Nephteus’s palace at Bette’s birth. Zeus was dumbfounded by his daughter’s many talents she possessed: strength, wisdom, and beauty. She was the perfect combination of all three, not a man could defeat the warrior or be worthy of her. Elizabeth worried her daughter would never choose a prince or settle down with one. Bette just wanted serve her people and fight in wars in her mortal father’s army. Nephteus knew his daughter’s passion to serve her land and what immortal skills she possessed. Bette would be the greatest warrior the world had ever seen. Armies would tremble at the Greek army with her on their side. However, women were not allowed to serve in the armed forces and Nephteus could not grant Bette’s wish. Her duty was to stay in the palace and prepare herself to choose a prince that would rule beside her as king one day. The young warrior didn’t want to marry a man or settle down. She wanted more than that. Men were mindless killers with no concept of emotions or love. Bette couldn’t picture herself married to an ugly bearded man and bearing his children. However, she had her eye on someone though. And the story begins…

One day Bette was training with her cousin Avestus in the valley. They were by the sea dueling with their swords. Bette was merely 18 years old and Avestus was still no match for the young warrior. She swung her sword around swiftly blocking her cousin’s offense and darted behind him. Avestus spun around on the back of his heals his sword swiping near Bette’s knees. The brunette sprung into the air dodging the attack and came down behind Avestus. She quickly locked her elbow around his throat and held the sword to his neck. Avestus smiled and spoke unto the brunette “Very well cousin, not even I am a match for you.” Bette beamed with gratitude and released her hold on her cousin replying “I thank my father and the gods. Have they not gifted me with such powers I would not be the warrior I am today. Also, you have taught me well Avestus.” Avestus patted his younger cousin on the back “Such modesty. You’ll make a fine warrior and I hope to fight alongside of you one day.” Bette’s features dropped as she stared at the sword in her hand sadly “Nephteus denied my wish to fight with the Greek army. He said my duties where to remain in the palace and prepare for marriage. Avestus, I want more than that. I was born to honor my homeland and the gods in battle. I was born to be a hero” she said dimly. Avestus gave the brunette’s shoulder a firm squeeze and a reassuring smile “If it is your destiny you’ll find a way to be a hero and your name will be known for centuries” he replied. Bette nodded and hugged her cousin thankful to have such a caring mentor. They looked at the setting sun and Avestus knew it was time he got back to the palace with his own family. Avestus parted from the beach and walked on towards the palace. Bette sat on the shore watching the sea lap the sand and wept “Poseidon, your sea carries my tears, hear my cry for mercy. I am the daughter of Zeus and sibling of Athena, Aphrodite, Mars, Diana, and Vulcan. Let my cries be known that I may fight for the gods. I was born to be a hero.” The brunette wiped her tears and set off back to the palace.

As Bette walked through the village she heard a scream coming from a nearby alley. She gripped her sword firmly and cautiously walked to the alley she had heard the scream. The warrior came upon drunken men laughing and cursing as they pushed around a young maiden, 15 or 16 years old. One man grabbed hold of the young blonde girl who wore nothing but a robe and fondled her waist down to her legs. She fought furiously but was no match for the strong man. He was about to strike the maiden when Bette drew her sword and pounced forward alarming the men. The drunken men drew their swords unaware it was their princess and made sneers towards her. “Well, looks like we’ll have two ladies joining our party tonight men! We’ll have fun with this one!” a man shouted and stepped towards Bette daringly with a drawn sword. The brunette smiled wickedly as she moved with great speed and sliced into the man’s leg.
The other men watched in shaken horror as she picked up a burning log and tossed it their way. She hissed to the frightened men and took off her helmet “You are fools to ever cross me again or torture a woman. I am Princess Bette, daughter of Zeus and Queen Elizabeth; you will be punished for your vile ways”. They released the blonde maiden and scurried away in fright. Bette slowly approached the scared girl and she backed away frightened by the warrior. “You do not need to fear me. What is your name?” Bette asked. The young girl spoke softly and hid her face in shame as she was in the presence of royalty “Tina” she replied. Bette brought the girl on her feet and lifted her chin gently staring into the blonde’s hazel eyes, she was breathtakingly beautiful. “You do not have to bow. Did they hurt you in any way…?” Tina dropped her face to her feet so the warrior would not have to see her battered features and shook her head. The blonde had been badly beaten but that was all, just cuts and bruises that would heal in days’ time. Bette felt her heart cringe at the sight and she wished she’d killed the men who did this to this beautiful woman. “Come with me back to the palace. I’ll have my servants tend to your wounds and cater to your needs” Bette said and tenderly grasped the girls hand. Tina shook her head and lifted her eyes to meet the brunette’s “Your highness… I couldn’t… I’m not worthy…” she stuttered over her words. Bette smiled and placed her hand on the small of Tina’s back and motioned her head towards the palace “Consider it an order. Come on.” Aphrodite looked down upon her sister and smiled, she knew Bette’s fate; it was all panning out as Aphrodite had predicted.

Bette brought Tina to the palace and her servants attended to the maiden as the brunette had requested. Elizabeth was touched by her daughter’s generosity but skeptical of her intentions. Bette had never been so cautious and caring towards another human as she was with Tina. Elizabeth saw a twinkle in her daughter’s eye whenever she looked upon the blonde. The Queen questioned Bette’s motives and suspected the brunette’s feelings were deeper than just pure kindness. After the servants had tended to Tina and she ate, the blonde slept for three days. When she awoke Bette was placing a tray of fresh fruits and meats beside the bed, this alarmed Tina a bit as she quickly realized where she was. “Forgive me your highness! I have over stayed my welcome, I will be on my way” Tina said and jumped up from the bed. She noticed she was clothed in a fine green dress fit for a princess herself. “Your robe needed to be cleaned. My servant helped you change into this while they washed your cloths. I hope you do not mind” Bette replied. The warrior was in her gold suit that consisted of a skirt, bronze breast plate, and knee high boots. Her sword tucked safely in its holder and her bow secured around her back. Tina couldn’t help but smile and shook her head “Not at all, this dress is lovely, thank you.” The brunette admired Tina’s beauty and modesty; she was too beautiful for the life of a peasant. “Come dine with me and tell me about you” Bette insisted. The blonde blushed slightly and nodded then followed the brunette into the garden where the servants had prepared dinner. Bette was the one who broke the silence as they ate “So, tell me, why where those men pushing you around the other night?” Tina sighed and dropped her eyes to the table replying “I was searching for a place to spend the night and those men captured me.” Bette blinked stunned, the girl was homeless? Where were her parents? “You’re certainly not old enough to be on your own. Where are your parents?” the brunette asked. The blonde held back tears as she searched for the words to say “My father died while away at war and my mother was killed by a band of thieves. They burned our house to the ground and I was lucky to escape. I was 14 years old then, 2 years ago, and I’ve been on my own ever since.” Bette was stuck with great sorrow for the beautiful girl; she wished she could end Tina’s pain. “The world is a cruel place and is not for a beautiful girl like yourself to be wandering about” Bette replied. Tina blushed again she had never felt so cared for in her life. “I get along just fine” the blonde replied. Bette lifted her eyebrow “So, the fact I had to save you the other night doesn’t support that claim at all?” she asked teasingly. Tina popped a grape into her mouth and grinned “I would have eventually handled them myself. I’m a very capable woman, your highness” she answered. Bette chuckled and leaned back in her seat, she liked this woman “I’m sure you are Tina.” Tina looked the brunette in the eyes “Thank you for saving me, your highness.” Bette waved her hand in the air “Please, call me Bette, and it was my honor to save you.”

For the next few weeks Bette coaxed the blonde to stay another day every time she began to leave. Tina felt like she was intruding in on the warrior’s life but couldn’t deny Bette’s plea for her to stay. They became very acquainted with each other and Bette found herself never wanting to leave Tina’s side. Bette cracked open the door to the blonde’s room and found Tina washing her face. “Hey, I was wondering if you would like to accompany me on a walk to the beach” Bette asked. Tina dried her face and slipped on her sandals then followed the brunette outside of the palace. Elizabeth watched from the window of her room as the two girls ran into the forest hand in hand. She’d never seen Bette so happy or cheerful in all her days. Elizabeth knew from the first time she’d seen her daughter’s face after meeting the blonde maiden, Bette was in love. This worried and enthralled the Queen all at the same time; she had never known a romance such as this or heard talk of one. Elizabeth did know that this wouldn’t be accepted amongst the people or gods. Despite seeing her daughter happy, she had to do something that would distract Bette away from Tina.

Tina held Bette’s bow in her hand staring at the thick golden frame admiring its power. “Here, I’ll show you how to hold it” the brunette stood behind the blonde and slid her mocha arms down Tina’s until she gripped the small white hands on the bow. The blonde gasped slightly as she felt the warmth emanating from the warrior’s body. Her eyes scanned down the brunette’s body as she let Bette guide her arms into place. Bette could feel Tina’s eyes on her body and turned her face to the blonde’s. “Are we paying attention?” Bette asked playfully. Tina slightly leaned into the warm embrace and smiled looking at the hazelnut eyes staring back. “Bette…” Tina whispered and the brunette met the blonde’s gaze. Seconds seemed to turn into a lifetime as they stared into each other’s eyes. Bette released her grip on the bow and the blonde did the same. The brunette gently turned Tina’s face towards hers and as their lips met sparks seemed to ignite their bodies. When they parted from the kiss it was only to retrieve air in their lungs. Bette smiled and opened her eyes to see a worried look on the blonde’s face. She brushed a stray piece of hair behind Tina’s hair and furrowed her brows curiously “Tina, what is wrong?” The blonde smiled weakly and dropped her gaze to the ground “I’m not worthy of you Bette. You’re so kind and noble when I’m just a peasant girl. I’m scared and worried. What will they think? What will they say?” The brunette lifted her chin and gave her the biggest smile she could manage “Tina, my heart belonged to you the moment I laid eyes upon you. You’re so much more than a peasant girl. And as for the people, don’t worry about them, I’ve got the people under control” Bette replied and wrapped her arms around Tina’s small gorgeous body. The blonde laid her head on the brunette’s shoulder and sighed deeply “What about the gods?” Tina whispered. “Zeus is my father. Athena, Aphrodite, Vulcan, and Mercury are my siblings. The gods are in my favor. Let me take care of you Tina. I want to make sure you’re treated like a queen and shown your true worth” Bette gently rubbed the blonde’s creamy skin on her back that was exposed. “Promise me something, Bette” Tina asked looking at the warrior intently. The brunette nodded and replied “Anything for you.” Tina brushed her knuckles along Bette’s mocha cheeks and played with a stray brown curl that had fallen in the brunette’s face. “Promise me you’ll never leave my side” the blonde asked tears forming in her eyes. Bette smiled and took Tina’s face between her palms “I promise Tina” she kissed the blonde passionately.

For months they kept their relationship a secret. Sometimes sneaking out of the palace late at night to take walks and hold each other on the shores. Bette found herself falling deeper in love with the blonde maiden every day; Tina found her feelings doing the same for the brunette, Bette was her hero, her lover, and best friend. They shared their secrets with each other, their weaknesses, and their desires. Nothing was uncommon ground for them and when Tina would start to feel insecure or pull away out of fear, Bette would bring her back. They were truly opposites but as they say, opposites attract and their love was mightier than any force on earth. Bette recalled the story of Zeus, her father, and how he came to make man. In the beginning, man had four arms, four legs, and two faces on one head. Fearing their power, Zeus split them into two separate beings, dooming them to spend their whole lives in search for their other halve. Bette believed Tina was her other half, she believed with it with every fiber of her being. Thus making the brunette reclaim her destiny, it was not to be the greatest warrior of earth, it was to care for the woman she loved and live life to the upmost. Bette knew the dangers of claiming her love for the blonde in front of the gods and people. However, she did not care, if this love was forbidden by the gods then why make it so possible? Why make it so easy? Love was not a trick, game, nor did it have certain rules. Love was finding that one person who completed you. Bette knew that person was her Tina. She would challenge any man or god to prove her love. The day would come when their relationship would be casted upon the ears of peasants and gods. That day, Bette would turn the other cheek to criticism and fight for their right to wed. She was the only heir to Nephteus’s throne and her beloved blonde maiden would serve as Ithaca’s other Queen. They would rule for many years, together and in love, Bette just knew. However, what the brunette didn’t know was Juno had other plans for her.

Acceptance. Chapter 11.

It was Thursday morning, Tina got up feeling rejuvenated and energetic. Last night had been emotional but she remembered the sweet text that was enough to put her mind at ease and fall into a peaceful sleep. The blonde put on a tank top, shorts, and running shoes for her morning jog. She grabbed her Ipod and started down the side of the street. Bette woke up in the same manner and went out to the barn to do her morning workout. Luc and Lucas had given her their weight lifting bench they no longer used. Her workout routine consisted of: running in place, weight lifting, pushups, Pilates, crunches, calf raises, etc. She turned up the stereo as loud as it would go blasting an 80’s pop song she loved. Tina jogged by Bette’s house figuring the brunette was still sleeping. Bette began to run in place to the beat of the music, losing herself in the song. Tina heard music blaring from the barn and decided to go check it out. The brunette got carried away with herself as she danced around the barn twirling in circles as her feet bounced off the floor rapidly. She had become drenched in sweat and her brown curls whipped around vigorously as she turned around and around. Tina secretly watched the sexy scene before her, Bette was so lost in the music she hadn’t yet noticed the blonde.

“Locking rhythms to the beat of her heart

Changing movement into the light

She has danced into the danger zone

When the dancer becomes the dance.

It can cut you like a knife

If the gift becomes the fire

On the wire between will and what will be

She’s a maniac on the floor

And she’s dancing like she’s never danced before

She’s a maniac on the floor

And she’s dancing like she’s never danced before

On the ice blue line of insanity

Is a place most never see

It’s a hard won place of mystery

Touch it but can’t hold it

You word all your life for that moment in time

It can come or pass you by

It’s push, shove world but there’s always a chance

If the hunger stays the night

There’s a cold kinetic heat

Struggling, stretching for the peak

Never stopping with her head against the wind”

Tina became amazed with how much passion the brunette showed in everything she did. The blonde was also impressed with her flexibility and determination. As Bette danced around the room it was almost as she was getting some kind of release. Her eyes gazing upon the ceiling and mouth agape while she twirled and her feet pounded the floor. Tina felt guilty for spying and decided to make her presence known. She rapped her knuckles upon the wood frame of the door. Bette spun around on her heels startled and stumbled back on her butt. Tina ran over to the brunette to help her up.

Tina(hysterically): “Oh my god! I’m so sorry for startling you! I didn’t mean to!”

Bette(blushing): “How long were you watching?”

Tina(chuckling): “A few minutes”

Bette(face palm): “Oh my god, I feel like a complete fool!”

Tina(smiling): “I was actually very impressed. I’ve never seen anyone get so lost in music like that. You’re so passionate about everything you do”

Bette(shyly): “Thanks. I just really love that song. What are you doing up so early?”

Tina: “Morning jog. I take it you’re working out yourself?”

Bette(shrugging): “Yup. I do this every morning. It liberates me. It’s how I release stress”

Tina grazes her eyes over the brunette’s lithe mocha body. She was wearing thin shorts and a men’s white tank. The blonde bites her lip suggestively.

Bette: “Hello, Tina?”

Tina(snaps from thoughts): “Uhh, yeah. Running helps me release stress too”

Bette(smiles): “I thought you were a runner. You have great legs!”

Tina(giggles): “You don’t look so bad yourself, Porter”

Bette(chuckles): “You’re such a tease, Kennard”

Tina(smiles innocently): “Well, it’s getting about that time. I guess I should jog on home and get ready for school, ugh”

Bette senses a mood change in Tina.

Bette(touches Tina’s shoulder): “Hey, what’s wrong?”

Tina(sighs): “I broke up with Jack last night and he was a total jerk! He told me that he was cheating on me with Natalie, my ‘best friend’, and that everyone knew except me! I feel like a complete idiot Bette”

Tears start rolling down Tina’s face and Bette pulls the upset blonde in for a tight embrace.

Bette(soothingly): “Hey, don’t cry T he’s not worth your tears or any of them for that matter. They’re heartless and cruel. The only reason they turned their backs on you is because you’re nothing like them T. You’re sweet, funny, nice, and caring. The first day of school I wondered how such a nice person could belong to a group of people so mean but you don’t. You’re not a part of them you’re your own person and what they do shouldn’t influence you. T, listen, just walk into that school today give them your biggest smile and show them that Tina Kennard won’t be pushed over or taunted with”

Tina(smiling through glassy eyes): “Gosh, Bette you know just what to say to make a girl feel better, don’t cha?”

Bette(wipes Tina’s eyes): “No, I just spoke the truth T.”

Tina hugs Bette and sighs reluctantly into the warm embrace.

Tina(pulls away): “I’m going to run back now. I’ll see you in a few”

Bette(stops Tina): “Hey T, why don’t you come back a bit early. Mom’s making breakfast, you should join us”

The blonde’s parents were never around to make her breakfast; they left for work at the crack of dawn, sometimes earlier. Tina’s stomach growled at the thought of food and she decided to accept the invitation considering she was starving.

Tina(smiles): “Sure, I’ll be back in a bit. Bye Bette!”

Bette(waving): “Bye T!”

The brunette walked into her house after watching Tina jog back down the street. Roxanne was in her robe reading the paper and drinking coffee, she noticed her daughter’s giddy smile.

Roxanne: “What are we so happy about this morning?”

Bette: “Tina stopped by this morning while she was jogging. She’s coming back over for breakfast, that alright Mom?”

Roxanne(waves a hand in the air): “Of course babygirl! She’s such a nice girl, Bette. I’m glad you met her”

Bette(smiling): “Me too! Hey, I’m going to go get ready for school. If Tina comes early tell her I’ll be right down and don’t nag Mom!”

Roxanne(scoffs): “Bette Porter! I know you just did not tell your Mother she was a nag!”

Bette laughs and runs upstairs to get ready for school. Roxanne starts preparing a huge breakfast for 3. Eggs, pancakes, bacon, and muffins soon filled the center of the table. Tina rang the doorbell a few moments later. Roxanne wipes her hands and goes to answer it.

Roxanne(greeting the blonde): “Hello Tina”

Tina(returning the greeting): “Hi Ms. Porter”

Roxanne: “Bette’s still getting ready but she should be right down. Go ahead and sit down at the table while I prepare our drinks. What would you like?”

Tina: “Orange juice will be fine, thank you”

Roxanne nods and disappears into the kitchen to fix their beverages while Tina takes a seat at the table. The blonde observes the huge amount of food covering the table barely leaving room for eating space. A few moments later Bette emerges from the staircase with her tailored black slacks and a fancy button down collared shirt tucked neatly inside the pants. And she topped the sexy outfit off with heels.

Tina(smiling): “Hey there! You look amazin’!”

Bette(Porter smile): “I think I can say the same about you”

Tina(rolling eyes): “I wear this same cheer uniform almost err’y day and if not I’m in khakis an a polo”

Bette(shrugs): “Anything you wear you make it look good”

Tina(blushes): “Bette, stop doin’ that!”

Bette(smiling mischievously): “Doing what?”

Tina(laughs): “That low voice and the sweet complements!”

Bette(lowering her voice): “Oh you mean like this?”

Tina(giggles and hits Bette playfully): “Bette!”

Roxanne coughs interrupting the play fest between the girls and brings out a tray with their drinks. Tina and Bette look at each other laughing. Roxanne shakes her head and Bette takes a seat across from Tina. After they pass out the drinks and fix their plates they engage in a conversation.

Roxanne: “So where are you taking Tina tomorrow night?”

Bette(smiling at Tina): “A nice restaurant at the beach that uncle Greg was talking about”

Roxanne(lifting her eyebrow): “How do you expect to know how to get there?”

Bette: “Uhh, Google earth and your GPS”

Tina giggled thinking about the brunette’s horrible sense of direction.

Roxanne: “Okay, just making sure you know how horrible you are with directions babygirl!”

Bette(groaning): “Must you and Tina bring that up every time?”

Tina: “It’s okay Bette, that’s why they have GPS”

Roxanne(chuckling): “So, Tina, does your parents know you like women too?”

Tina(shifts uncomfortably in her seat): “Uhh, I don’t think so because I’ve never mentioned it”

Roxanne(concerned): “Will they have a problem about you dating Bette?”

Tina(shakes her head): “They shouldn’t, I mean as long as I’m happy, right?”

Roxanne(shrugs): “I don’t know some parents are repulsed by it”

Tina(bites her lip nervously): “I’ve told Mom about Bette and I bein’ friends. She says the Porters are great people and she’s very fond of Greg and his family. Luc and Lucas grew up with me and their like my brothers. Mom even said you and her use to be good friends in high school. Dad said him and Greg were too. So, I don’t see why they’d have a problem with it. You’re great, Bette’s great, it’s my happiness so they should accept it”

Roxanne(smiling): “I’m sorry if I’ve made you uncomfortable Tina. It was an honest question. Bette came out to me a few years ago and I accepted her without a doubt. Yes, your mother and I were very close, like best friends. I think she holds some retribution against me for leavin’ so many years ago without a single goodbye”

Tina(shaking her head): “No, Ms. Porter, Mom said you followed your heart and she couldn’t hold you responsible for that. Although she did admit she missed you dearly afterwards. She mentioned you two catchin’ up”

Roxanne: “Tell her I’d love for us to catch up”

Bette: “Hey T it’s about time to go”

Tina(checking the time): “Oh gosh it is! You ready to go Bee?”

Bette(smiling): “Bee?”

Tina(blushes): “New nickname?”

Bette: “I like it. Let’s get to going”

Bette hugs her mom and grabs her things along with Tina’s.

Bette(waving to her mom): “Bye Mom!”

Roxanne(waving back): “Bye babygirl!”

The two women walked out of the house and to Tina’s car getting inside.

Tina(cranking up): “B, you don’t have to carry my things!”

Bette(smiling): “I do and I want too”

Tina(sighing): “You’re impossible Porter!”

Acceptance. Chapter 10.

After Tina’s piano lessons she went upstairs to her bedroom to settle in for the night. The blonde picked up her phone knowing what she had to do. The phone rang and rang until a familiar voice came on the line.

Jack: “Aye babe!”

Tina: “Hey”

Jack: “Why you callin’ so late baby? Thinkin’ bout me?”

There was a mixture of lust and cockiness in the jock’s voice and he chuckled. Tina rolled her eyes in disgust. Jack had been trying to get into her pants for a while now but hadn’t succeeded. How did she ever manage three months with this insensitive jerk?

Tina(annoyed): “Uhh no, I called because we have to talk”

Jack(laughing): “Talk about what? About how sexy you would look on me right now?”

Tina(pissed): “NO ABOUT HOW I JUST FUCKING DUMPED YOU!”

Jack(shocked): “Whoa, baby, what the fuck?”

Tina(scoffs): “You’re a fucking pig, Jack. You treat people harshly, you’re always badgering me about my friends and you only want sex. It’s over.”

Jack(angry): “That’s fine. I was getting some on the side anyways! Natalie didn’t mind at all! You know I’m starting to think hanging around that geeky brunette from up north has affected you! That’s cool though, because you can hang with those losers anyways. Why don’t you join the Art Club too? Hahahahaha!”

Tina clenched her jaw angrily. Not only had Jack hurt her feelings but he had insulted Bette. The blonde silently cursed herself for dating the jerk anyways and realized that she really didn’t have any friends. Natalie, her ‘best friend’, had been sneaking around on her behind her back with Jack. And the other guys on the football team that she considered brother figures had probably knew about it too. No more doing what others want, it’s time for me to start following my own heart whether people accept it or not! After Tina told herself that, she hung up on Jack and lay back in bed crying. The only true friend she had was Bette. It hurt that after 4 years of knowing these people they turn their backs on her. Just then her phone lighted up signaling she had a text.

Bette: Hey, just wanted to say goodnight! I can’t wait for our date! Thanks for giving me a chance Tina. You won’t regret it (: See you in the morning.

Tina wiped her eyes and smiled. She had something to look forward too, Bette. It didn’t matter that all her ‘friends’ had deceived her or that Jack had cheated, all that mattered was she would be seeing a particular brunette the next day and the famous Porter smile that would make her day go extremely better. Tina rolled over smiling peacefully to herself as she pictured that smile in her mind; just the thought of Bette made her happy.

Roxanne tried to sneak in; she had just had the best time with her co-workers. They were all so nice and made her feel comfortable. Roxanne put her purse down on the bar and tiptoed up the stairs trying not to disturb her assumingly asleep daughter. Bette flung her bedroom door open and started doing a funny dance in the hallway. Roxanne was a bit startled at first but then wondered why her daughter was so happy.

Bette(enthralled): “Mom! I asked Tina out and she said yes! Omg, Mom it was so perfect! I can’t believe it! We were in my room and I was giving her back her earring. And after I slipped it back into her ear we just stood there looking into each other’s eyes. THEN, OMG, MOM, I KISSED HER AND SHE KISSED ME BACK. After I asked her did she like me she said yes and then I asked her out and TINA AGREED! MOM, TINA AGREED!”

Bette was talking so fast Roxanne couldn’t quite keep up. She put her hand on Bette’s shoulder and patted it lightly.

Roxanne(chuckling): “Come sit in my bedroom and you can tell me all about what happened while I change out of these clothes! These heels are killin’ my dogs!”

The brunette nodded and laughed at her mother’s analogy just like Tina’s. She followed her mother into her bedroom and sat on Roxanne’s bed while she changed into her pajamas.

Bette: “Okay, so Tina left her earring here the other day and after school she came in to get it. We were in my room and I retrieved the earring and stepped closer to slip the earring back in. I brushed her blonde hair behind her ear and gently slipped the earring back in. We stared into each other’s eyes and then I wrapped my arms around her waist and kissed her. I was about to pull away until she brought her arms around my neck and pressed into the kiss more. Mom, it was absolutely perfect. I pulled away and we both stood in shock until she asked what had just happened. I stumbled over my words and apologized. Tina stopped me and proclaimed her attraction to me and admitted we had a connection. Then I asked her out and she agreed!” Roxanne was shocked by the story herself but wanted to jump with joy. She pulled on her pajamas and hugged her daughter tightly.

Roxanne(happy): “Aww! My babygirl is growing up! So when is your date?”

Bette(smiling): “This Friday night. Can I borrow the car to take Tina to the beach?”

Roxanne(nodding): “Of course baby! I’ll give you some money too!”

Bette hugs her mother again. She had the best mom in the universe and was thankful the ruler of humanity had given her the most loving mom in the world.

Acceptance. Chapter 9.

The girls giggled about a joke Tina had told Bette on the way to the brunette’s house as they entered Bette’s house. Roxanne wouldn’t be home till later on in the night time because she was going out with some of her co-workers for a drink after work.

Bette(laughing): “You and your southern analogies!”

Tina(blushing): “Don’t pick on me!”

Bette: “I’m not T, I love your accent and cute sayings”

Tina(lifting her eyebrow): “T?”

Bette(blushing): “Uhh, sorry it slipped out!”

Tina smirked approaching the brunette dangerously close. Bette’s breath hitched as the blonde leaned in smiling. What is this woman doing to me!?

Tina(whispering): “I like it”

With that said, the blonde reluctantly stepped back grinning and waited for Bette to regain her composure.

Bette(clears throat): “I’m glad you do! Let’s go get your earring then?”

Tina’s earring had fallen out the previous evening when she and Bette had been running around the house chasing each other.

Tina nodded and followed Bette upstairs to the brunette’s bedroom. Bette searched the top of her dresser and plucked the shiny dangling earring up. Tina waited for Bette to hand her the earring. Instead the brunette gently pushed aside the blonde’s hand to do it herself. As Tina had done to Bette just a few moments ago, the brunette stepped alarmingly close to the blonde. Tina’s heart picked up pace and her breath became ragged as Bette softly pushed her blonde curls behind her ear and placed the earring in its rightful place. The tension was so thick between the women it could have been cut in half with a blade. Bette lingered close to Tina staring into her eyes their bodies lightly pressing together. The brunette couldn’t control her desires any longer. She snaked her arms around the blonde’s small waist and pressed her lips against Tina’s. The blonde was frozen in shock and panic, but as their lips met, Tina melted into the kiss. Electricity sent chills down both of their spines and fireworks went off as Tina wrapped her arms around Bette’s neck pressing into the brunette’s body wanting more contact. What seemed like forever but only lasting for a few seconds the kiss ended as Bette pulled away first. Both women were afraid of what the kiss meant for them but both knew they were highly attracted to one another. Wow, I’ve never experienced anything like that. I don’t know what this means but I know I’m highly attracted to Bette. Does she feel the same? She has to; no one can kiss like that and not mean it! Damn, Porter has me melting in the palms of her hands already. Who knew she could be this bold and sexy? Tina thought to herself as she stared at Bette. Well, at least I know she feels the connection too! But what does this mean for us? Tina’s my friend and has a boyfriend! Oh god, great going Porter! Now you’ve probably fucked your friendship up too! Bette thought. Tina took the liberty of interrupting the silence.

Tina(whispering): “What just happened?”

Bette(chewing her lip nervously): “We kissed… I don’t know why I kissed you Tina! I just felt drawn too! Oh god!”

Tina(giggling): “It’s okay Bette! I kissed you back, remember?”

Bette(skeptically): “So you like me too?”

Tina(nods): “Yeah, since like the first time I saw you!”

Bette(clears her throat): “Tina, I feel there is this strong connection between us and I’d like to explore it, if you would agree. I know there’s Jack…”

Tina cuts Bette off by the uplift of her hand and shakes her head.

Tina: “I feel it too, Bette. As for Jack and I, there is no Jack and I. I told you how he is and I can’t believe I’m still dating him! I thought about what you said about me following my heart… and I’d like to explore this too”

Bette(smiling): “So, I guess I should ask you this properly… Um, Tina Kennard, would you like to go out with me?”

Tina(in her southern bell accent): “Porter you make it hard to deny you with that smile! Of course I would!”

Bette: “My uncle was talking about this restaurant at the beach. I’ll borrow my mom’s car and pick you up Friday night”

Tina(giggling): “That sounds great but… does your mom have a gps?”

Bette(laughs and rolls eyes): “Yes she does! Stop picking on my horrible direction skills!”

They tease each other for a few more minutes until Tina checks her phone and sees that if she doesn’t leave now she’ll be late for her piano lessons.

Tina(sighs): “I’ve gott’a get goin’. If I don’t Momma will have my head about bein’ late for my piano lessons. I’ll text you though! See you in the mornin’”

Bette nods and gives Tina a warm smile. She leads the blonde out the door and hugs her before watching Tina drive off down the highway. Bette leaned against the frame of the door smiling widely. She loved knowing her and the blonde had a date Friday night and more so that Tina liked her too.

Acceptance. Chapter 8.

The next morning Bette woke up refreshed and excited to start the day, but even more eager to see a certain blonde. The brunette had chosen a form fitting black skirt with a white button up short sleeved shirt tucked inside her skirt neatly. She let her brown curls fall naturally to her shoulders and applied a thin coat of make-up with mascara making her eyes pop. Bette heard Tina’s car coming down the driveway, so she slipped on her heels and headed downstairs grabbing her books and sunshades. Bette kissed her mother goodbye then stepped out the door. Tina had to look twice at the lady that was coming out of the brunette’s house. Something looked different about Bette and it was like she was glowing, glowing with sexiness. She has to be the sexiest girl I’ve ever met! The blonde thought to herself. The brunette showed more confidence and attitude by holding her head high and shoulders back. Bette looked like she could take on the world and absolutely showed it. “Hello, Tina” the brunette said getting inside the car smiling to the blonde. Tina stammered over her words completely taken with the mocha goddess “H-h-hey B-bette. You look gr-gr-eat.” Bette smiled and buckled up. Over the next few weeks Tina found herself flirting more openly with the brunette and spending more time with her. Bette found herself opening up and becoming more social. They were inseparable.

“Hey, you’re the new girl, right?” a bubbly blonde asked. She had stopped Bette on the way to 4th period which was art class. “Um, yeah” the awkward brunette replied. The blonde smiled and shook Bette’s hand “I’m Alice! I’m the writer for the school’s newspaper!” Bette smiled and returned the shake “I’m Bette, Bette Porter” she replied. Alice grinned and looped her arm around Bette’s dragging her down the hall. “You’re the talk of the school! Everyone is talking about the new girl. It seems like you’ve made a great impression on everyone. You look stunning today! Well, I’ve got to go to 4th period, I’ll find you at lunch tomorrow and you can meet my friends. I think you’ll love them! It was great to meeting you Bette, bye!” Alice said and walked off. The brunette stood there in bewilderment wow that girl has some lungs! Bette thought and walked off to 4th period. When she walked into class Tina was pointing to a seat beside her that she obviously had saved for Bette. The brunette sat beside the blonde and gave Tina her best Porter smile. Then the teacher spoke up and the class quieted down “Okay, as you know we are studying interpreting artist and paintings. As we cover this section I want all of you to work on a painting on your own. Then as we reach the end of the topic you’ll give oral presentations about your painting and what it means. You’ll have 3 weeks to complete this project and if you don’t have the supplies at home to create it with, I’ll let you borrow some. Questions, concerns? Good. Moving on now” Tina poked the brunette beside her and leaned over “You’ll get an A for sure” the blonde whispered. Bette blushed and smiled “My paintings aren’t that great, Tina” she whispered back. Tina rolled her eyes playfully and went back to doodling on her notebook as the teacher lectured.

Bette met back up with her cousins in the parking lot after school and saw Tina talking to Luc. The brunette smiled as she approached the twins and the lovely blonde. “There you are, we thought you had gotten lost!” Lucas exclaimed laughing. Bette blushed and shook her head “No, I was just talking to Candace about something after class.” Luc and Lucas looked at their cousin wide-eyed and shocked. “Lesbian Candace?” Luc asked. Bette nodded confusingly as Lucas interjected “Dude, she’ll eat you alive. She’s the biggest lesbian player around. I mean, she’s slept with half of the cheerleading team!” Tina quickly threw her hand up in the air speaking “But not me!” Bette sighed relieved Tina wasn’t one of them and went back to focusing on Lucas. “Bette, she’ll only try to get in your pants. Watch out for her cuz, she’ll break your heart” Luc added. Tina shook her head muddled and stepped into the conversation “wait am I missing something here?” Bette gulped and decided it was best to go ahead and get it out of the way. “Tina, I’m a lesbian” the brunette exclaimed. The blonde was momentarily in shock but immediately shook the face and shrugged playing it cool. She didn’t want Bette to think she had a problem with gay people “Oh, well then yeah, you should watch out for her then” Tina replied coolly. Bette shrugged at Tina smirking “Yeah, I guess I should. I was just excited there was someone else like me” she replied. The blonde placed a loving hand on the brunette’s shoulder. “I know it’s not exactly the same but I’m bi” Tina exclaimed. Luc and Lucas looked at each other smiling smugly plans forming in their mind. “Really? That’s cool. I would have never guessed” Bette said shocked by Tina’s revelation. “Yeah, most people can’t see past the cheerleading uniform and blonde hair” the blonde replied defensively. Shit! Bette why did you say that!? Now you’ve hurt her feelings! The brunette quickly blurted out “Well, even if I’ve only known you less than a day, your personality is just as beautiful as your appearance.” Tina blushed hard showing a small smile as Bette bit her lip in frustration. Now she knows you think she’s attractive. Way to make a fool out of yourself Porter! Luc and Lucas felt the tension in the air grow as both girls smiled at each other. “Um, we’re going to go, Bette you coming?” Luc asked. Tina and Bette snapped from their trance as the blonde replied “I’ll take her home. I think I should show her around town.” Bette immediately interjected “No, no you don’t have to Tina.” The blonde waved off the brunette’s comment and smiled warmly “I want too. Think of it as my way of repaying you for how rude my friends were.” The twins climbed inside their car grinning at each other as Bette glanced in their direction, Luc winked at her before pulling out of the parking space. “See you later! We’ll tell Aunt Rox you’re exploring and you’ll be home later” Lucas said waving and they sped off. “Thanks Tina” Bette said as they walked to the blonde’s car. “No need to thank me” she replied as they got in.

“Here are all your stores. Of course none sell anything new style or designer brands but we’re about 30 minutes from the beach so if you need clothes it’s not a far drive. There’s the drug store, grocery store, convenient store, thrift shop, and gas station. Then you have the bank, dance academy, library, theatre, café, and a restaurant” Tina pointed out each location as they slowly drove past them. “What’s your last name?” the blonde asked curiously. “Porter” Bette replied. “Bette Porter… I like that. Mines Kennard, Tina Kennard” Tina said smiling. The brunette found herself lost in the blonde’s beauty. “Beautiful name for a beautiful person” Bette said feeling brave. The brunette thought it was time she came out of her shell and stopped being so scared. She hadn’t never asked a girl on a date or actually flirted with one but now she thought she’d give it a try. Tina, once again, blushed as she turned her head gazing out the window. “You’re really sweet, Bette” the blonde replied. Bette shrugged giving the woman her best smile. “I’m just being honest” the brunette replied. A long silenced followed as both women observed the landscape. “So, how long have you and… Jack? Been dating?” Bette asked breaking the silence. “A few months” Tina replied shortly. “You two seem very in-love” the brunette exclaimed. The blonde sighed shaking her head and bit her lip “Promise you won’t tell?” she asked. Bette nodded and gave Tina a reassuring smile. “Jack and I aren’t working out. He’s so inconsiderate and rude at times. I love him but…” Tina’s voice trailed off.  Bette finished her sentence as if she could read the blonde’s mind. “You’re not in love with him” the brunette added. Tina nodded and frowned while her shoulders slouched sadly. “So, why do you stay with him?” Bette asked curiously. “Everyone thinks we’re this perfect couple and expects us to be” the blonde replied a hint of sarcasm in her voice. “Why pretend to be something you’re not for the sake of others?” the brunette pressed as she lifted her eyebrow studying the blonde. Tina shook her head, she didn’t have an answer. Why did she care what other’s thought? “I don’t know. I mean, my parents are these big time lawyers and have always been on top of everything. My mom was captain of the cheerleading team and prom queen. She also graduated top of her class. My dad was football captain and basketball. Him and my mom dated all throughout high school, and then got married. I guess I’ve always been pushed into the lime light and done what others expected me. My parents want me to follow in their footsteps and go to Harvard to study law. When I really want to go to UCLA and become a movie producer” Tina ranted and Bette studied her carefully listening to blonde intently. Tina could feel Bette’s eyes on her which set off butterflies in her stomach. When the blonde finished her rant she turned her head meeting the brunette’s brown eyes and smiled. “It’s your life Tina, live it the way you want. I’m pretty sure your parents won’t like your choice at first but I can tell you’re determined and that you will grow up to be a very successful producer. They’ll get over it once they see their daughter is happy” Bette replied in a smooth but serious tone then flashed her biggest Porter smile. And there goes those butterflies again. Tina, get it together or you’re going to wreck. The blonde snapped from her thoughts and nodded as she focused on the road. “So, what do you plan to do?” Tina asked. Bette leaned her elbow on the door frame, against the window, twisting her brown curls smiling. “I want to attend UCLA also and study art history then I want to open up my own gallery in LA.” The blonde grinned with delight “So I guess I’ll be seeing you after high school too?” she joked and chuckled. Bette laughed a bit “If you follow your heart” she replied. Tina caught herself staring at the mocha goddess beside her and quickly broke the silence “So, where do you live?” she asked as they came to a stop light. “Uhh, just by this old store and it has a lot of fields. I live in a brick house with a long driveway…” Tina cut Bette off giggling “The Porter Plantation? I know where that’s at. Not to be blunt but you suck at directions, Bette!” The brunette joined in with the blonde on the laughter “Guess I’ll have to call you if I get lost!” Tina nodded “I actually live practically walking distance from you” she added. Bette lifted an eyebrow smiling “That’s cool. I’m glad to know I’m not the only human in miles distance.” The blonde returned the warm smile “I guess you aren’t.” Tina turned down Bette’s road and minutes later her driveway. The brunette got out the car and the blonde killed the engine. “Hey, do you want to come inside? My mother was worried I wouldn’t make friends and… you know” Bette stammered and Tina nodded getting out of the car. Roxanne greeted the ladies at the door as she welcomed the blonde inside. “Well I see Bette has made a friend! I’m Roxanne Porter, her mother” Roxanne held her hand out “Bette’s really cool. I’m Tina Kennard; it’s great to meet you Ms. Porter” Tina replied shaking the woman’s hand. “You girls must be starving! Let me whip you up something for an afternoon snack” Roxanne insisted hurrying into the kitchen. Bette gave Tina an “I’m sorry look” and the blonde chuckled looking around the house. “You want to go to my room or back outside or something? Mom is sort of a nag” the brunette whispered. “It’s fine! Let’s go to your room” Tina answered. The ladies ran upstairs to Bette’s room and giggled the whole way there. “Wow, I love your bedroom set!” the blonde exclaimed observing the room. Tina walked around until she accidently hit a box with her arm knocking it over. Paintings spilled out all over the floor “Fuck!” Tina said kneeling down to pick them up. Bette blushed and immediately scrammed to help her; she didn’t want the blonde looking at her personal paintings. Tina noticed how talented the brunette was as she looked over some brief works while picking them up. “These are really good, Bette. They’re like amazin’” the blonde said completely in awe with the beautiful portraits. “Thanks” the brunette replied blushing a bit. Then there was a knock at Bette’s door and Roxanne stepped in with a platter of pizza rolls and sodas. “Oh my god, those look so good right now. I’m starvin’. Thanks Ms. Porter!” Tina said as Roxanne laid the platter on Bette’s bed between the girls. “You’re welcome, Tina. If you two need anything, holler” Roxanne replied and stepped out the room. “Your accent, it’s cute” Bette exclaimed as they ate. Tina blushed and giggled “That as well” the brunette added. The blonde noticed Bette was openly flirting with her and enjoyed it. “Tryin’ to score some brownie points, are we?” Tina asked lifting an eyebrow flirting back. “Depends, am I succeeding?” Bette inquired raising her eyebrow also and biting into a pizza roll making Tina laugh. “Yes, Porter, you are” the blonde replied. The girls finished up their snacks and Tina decided it was time for her to head on home before her parents got to wondering. Bette walked her to the front door “Bye Tina” she said as the blonde walked down the back porch steps. “Hey, can I pick you up for school in the morning?” Tina asked. The brunette smiled and shook her head agreeing. “Great! I’ll be here around 7:30. Bye Bette” the blonde shouted waving and got into her car. Bette closed her back door and leaned against it smiling. Roxanne was reading a book and sitting at the dining room table. She took her glasses off studying her daughter’s expression. “You like her, don’t you?” Roxanne asked. Bette pranced over to the table and sat down, she couldn’t stop smiling. “Yes, a lot” the brunette admitted. “Then I suggest you pick up the Porter charm. Is she into girls?” Bette shrugged and played with her hair twirling it around her finger “She said she was bisexual” she answered. Roxanne smiled and got up kissing her daughter on the forehead. “I got you a surprise” she exclaimed and disappeared into her bedroom. Roxanne came back carrying a Verizon bag and Bette wondered what the company sold. Her question was soon answered as her mother pulled out two plastic cases each holding the new iPhone.  “Since you will be going a lot and possibly staying with friends, I thought you would need a cell phone. I got me one too, so we can keep in touch” Roxanne exclaimed and handed Bette her new phone. The brunette squealed jumping up and hugging her mother excitedly “Thank you Mom!” Roxanne hugged her daughter back laughing and Bette took off to her room to play with her new phone.

Teach Me Love. Chapter 14.

“Sorry I’m a bit late, traffic was awful” Savannah exclaimed walking into Ms. Rowley’s office. The therapist noticed the blonde’s hasty and nervous manner quickly noting her anxiety. “It’s not a problem we still have a lot of time. Sit down and let’s start” the therapist motioned her hand towards the couch directly in front of her chair. Savannah sat down in the comfy leather couch calming a bit. There was no denying it, she was nervous about what emotions this session would bring up. “So, let’s start by telling me about yourself” Ms. Rowley suggested. The blonde noticed the woman was slightly older and dressed in business attire that screamed straight. Savannah then rationalized how absurd this meeting was, how could a straight woman possibly understand her? The blonde didn’t want to be rude so she agreed with herself she’d stay. “I’m 30, single, a lawyer, I live in West Hollywood…” Savannah started. The therapist casually interrupted the blonde with a hand gesture and a small smile “I basically know that Ms. Lee. I meant tell me about where you’re from, friends, and family” Savannah nodded and cleared her throat “Well, I’m from the south, South Carolina to be exact. I have an older sister named Rose…” the therapist intruded once again by asking “Do you and Rose have a good relationship?” The blonde smiled and nodded “Of course we do. She knows me better than I know myself. Rose basically raised me and has always been there for me. Actually, a couple weeks ago she flew all the way from the East Coast to check on me…” Ms. Rowley was interested in why Rose had flew all that way to see her sister considering it wasn’t nearing the holidays, she expected something was wrong with Savannah at that time. “Why was she concerned?” the therapist asked. The blonde shifted on the couch uncomfortably as she began to speak “I was having an emotional break down about something and my friend/assistant called Rose because he was concerned about me.” The therapist lifted her eyebrow suspiciously and while her voice remained soothing and calm “What was the break down about?” Savannah sighed and gulped “My friend… well, the woman I love admitted that she loved me also” she replied. “Elaborate please?” the therapist asked. “Well, you see, 15 years ago we were best friends and I was in love with her. But I began to feed her lies because of my selfish ways and immaturity. Eventually she found out and we didn’t speak… well, till almost two months ago. I spent my whole life clinging on to a small hope that something would bring her back. I went to law school and strived to be the best hoping that’d my success would be enough to bring her back. Well, right when I had begun to let her go she intrudes on my life. I was okay with us being friends but when she admitted her love for me… I fled.” As Savannah explained the therapist took note of her emotion changes and uncomfortable fidgeting. She could see the blonde had regrets, anger, hurt, and fear still lingering inside. They had a lot of ground to cover before Savannah could begin the healing process.

“I can see you want to let go of that hurt but don’t know how. The proper way is to open old wounds and see what caused the infection in the first place. Then we’ll clean the infection out and you’ll be able to let the wound heal fully. It’s going to take time and courage. Are you willing to dig down inside of yourself and reveal the vilest parts of yourself?” Savannah wiped away some stray tears and nodded. She liked the analogy Ms. Rowley used it helped her understand the therapist’s tactics better. “I’m willing to do whatever it takes. I want to pursue what my heart desires and be with the woman I love without any doubts” the blonde replied. Ms. Rowley smiled and looked at her clipboard as silence filled the room. “Let’s start by telling me why you lied.” Savannah leaned back into the couch as she searched her mind for the right words and sighed. “I wanted to hold onto her as long as I could. I knew it was wrong, every day I fought myself about my lies. I just couldn’t bring myself to tell her the truth because I knew she’d hate me. Hell, I hated myself for what I did. It’s just I was so deeply in love with her that I couldn’t fathom my life without her. She was my absolute everything. The worst part was I didn’t come to realize I was so undeniably in love with her until she ended our friendship.” Ms. Rowley listened and observed her client intently writing down important details. “Tell me a bit about how your friendship started and how it grew” the therapist asked. There was a slight change shown on the blonde’s face as she assumingly thought back to the friendship. Savannah smiled through her glassy orbs “We met at an art exhibition that her college’s art department opened. She was there with my brother’s best friend and my best friend, Brad. Brad was her boyfriend at the time and he introduced us. I was 15 and they were all in college but I was included in their group. All four of us did everything together. Soon Elizabeth and I became very close. We called each other every day and spent time together away from the guys. We had an extremely great bond. Well, when Brad and she had fights, which were very frequently, they vented to me. Then they became completely dysfunctional, their relationship was chaos. Brad started cheating on her and I found out. He begged me not to tell Elizabeth and I didn’t. So, I fed her lies to cover his ass. Soon enough, word got out he had fucked this other girl and the girl was my friend also. Brad just left and fled the situation without a word as Elizabeth pointed the blame on me. I know what I did was fucked up but Brad had been like a brother to me since forever. We grew up together and he was my best friend too. I was stuck… I didn’t know what to do. You think I’m horrible… don’t you?” Savannah held her face in her hands and wept. The therapist patted her shoulder and shook her head “I won’t judge you, Savannah, never. It was wrong, yes, but I’m here to help you get down to the core of these destructive ways. After you realize the patterns, then we can depart you from these habits. Are you and Elizabeth talking now?” Savannah nodded calmly. “Would she agree to come to some sessions? I think it’d be best for both of you to come. It’ll help both of you understand one another better. Before you and she can even begin a healthy relationship we’ve got to make sure there’s a clean slate to start on”

“What starts in chaos ends in chaos” –Helena Peabody (Rachel Shelley)

“Hey darling! Mm smells great! How was therapy?” Elizabeth asked walking through the front door sniffing the air and turning towards Savannah. “I had my doubts at first but it went absolutely great. Hey, we need to talk about something though but let’s eat first?” the blonde suggested as she had two plates already prepared and sitting on the table for them. Elizabeth smiled and kissed her cheek “Of course, I’m starving” the brunette replied and sat down. Savannah got out two wine glasses and poured them some wine then joined Elizabeth at the table. “I got the Kennedy offer” the blonde exclaimed as they ate. “I knew you would! That’s so great Vann!” Elizabeth replied delighted. “Yeah, and I’m going to her party at the Bev. Hill hotel. She was so impressed with me Liz!” The blonde’s smile grew with excitement making Elizabeth smile in return; she was happy for the blonde. They sat and finished their meals while engaging in small talk until Elizabeth spoke up “So, what is it you want to talk about?” Savannah put her fork down and wiped her mouth to begin explaining. “I went to therapy today and talked about our situation. We got into the very basics of the underlying problems and Ms. Rowley said that I’d take time and determination to fully heal. She also suggested both of us to come. If we want a relationship to work we first need to properly take care of the old wounds. If we want to fully give ourselves to one another and build a beautiful relationship on trust and love, we’ve got start on a clean slate” The brunette leaned back in her seat trying to understand just what the blonde was getting at. “I don’t quite understand you” Elizabeth replied confused. Savannah sighed as she thought for a better analogy. “Think of your heart as a canvas and there are all these bright and vivid colors that make it a beautiful, breath taking work of art. But as life intervenes and people pass through that hurt you black is spattered all over that perfect work of art. We forget to start over and use a clean canvas so we can begin to paint another picture. Instead, we dwell in our anguish and hurt trying to paint over something that has already been ruined. What I’m trying to say is, we’ve got to work and understand the underlying causes and habits that lead to our destruction. Then we can completely start over with fresh new hearts so our love can grow without walls or boundaries holding it back. I know you still have doubts and fears when it comes to trusting me that’s why this will be good for you too. Forgiveness is the key. We not only need to forgive each other but ourselves also”

Elizabeth sighed nervously as she stared into her lap. She was scared of what emotions and feelings this might bring up. She didn’t want to experience the pain all over again. But she did understand what the blonde was implying. They needed a fresh new start. “I don’t know, Vann. Why can’t we leave the wounds that have already healed behind us? I mean I don’t think bringing back up our old problems is a good idea. What if it causes us to fight or get in an argument?” Elizabeth asked worried. The blonde took the brunette’s hands in hers gently caressing them and put a stray brown lock behind Elizabeth’s ear. “We’ll have Ms. Rowley there to talk us through it. It’ll be fine, Elizabeth, we have to do this darling. It’s necessary for us to start over. I’ll be able to handle anything you say or reveal about me or how I made you feel. If I didn’t think we could handle this I wouldn’t be considering it, but I do believe we can make it through this because I have faith, faith in us.” The brunette smiled through tear filled eyes as she pulled Savannah in for a tight embrace. The blonde returned the smile and hug without hesitation. They were on the path to forgiveness, love, and trust.

Teach Me Love. Chapter 13.

Savannah had just settled down to finish reading her book on a murder case. She was in her pajamas pants that were two sizes too big and fell beneath her waist line comfortably. Her tank top had risen up just below her bellybutton exposing part of her stomach. The blonde’s hair was thrown up in a messy bun with curls spiraling out of the top. And her thin black rimmed glasses were pushed to the edge of her nose. Savannah was comfortably settled on the couch with the book and a glass of wine in hand. She couldn’t remember the last time she had relaxed like this. The blonde sighed peacefully and started to read until she was interrupted by the doorbell. Savannah got up groaning to herself and reached for the door handle. “Hi, I hope I didn’t come at a bad time. I just needed someone to talk to. I didn’t want to be by myself…” Elizabeth ranted to a very surprised blonde. Savannah stepped out of the door way inviting the worried brunette inside. “It’s fine. I’m glad to see you, wine?” the blonde asked. Elizabeth nodded and smiled observing the beautiful woman in front of her. She was so caught up with her worries she hadn’t even noticed the blonde’s break taking appearance. Savannah poured another glass of wine and sat on her couch patting for the brunette to sit beside her. Elizabeth sat opposite to the blonde and leaned back into the couch comfortably and takes her glass from Savannah. “Want to tell me why you’re so upset, darling?” the blonde asked tucking a stray hair behind her ear. “I left Rick for good” Elizabeth admitted. Savannah looked confused “That’s why you’re upset?” she asked. The brunette shook her head “No, he was so angry Vann, it really scared me. He even pushed me up against the wall so hard it knocked the breath out of me” The blonde could tell the incident had shaken the brunette up quite a bit. “It’ll be okay. You don’t ever have to be in that type of situation again. I’m glad you came to me now come here” Savannah said patting her lap. Elizabeth smiled and laid her head in the blonde’s lap. Savannah softly stroked the brunette’s head as a moment of silence passed. “I’ve missed you. Those phone calls didn’t do me justice” Savannah admitted smiling. Elizabeth chuckled “Really? And why didn’t they?” she asked teasing. The blonde’s lip formed a smug grin as she leaned down and placed a soft kiss on the brunette’s lips. “Because I couldn’t do that” Savannah replied. Elizabeth lifted her eyebrow playfully and pursed her lips “Just that?” The blonde rubbed the tips of their noses together and smiled “Do you always have to be a tease?” she asked. Elizabeth giggled and nodded “Don’t act like you don’t like it”. Savannah smirked replying “Oh, darling, I do” leaning down to give the brunette a more sensual kiss. “I made an appointment with Julianne Rowley” the blonde exclaimed proudly. Elizabeth’s face lite up with excitement and wrapped her arms around Savannah’s neck hugging her. “She’s like the best therapist on the west coast! I’m so proud of you!” the brunette replied. “I am too. Where are you staying tonight?” Savannah asked curiously. “I was, um, going to check into a hotel” Elizabeth answered sitting up to face the blonde. Savannah leaned into the confused woman whispering into her ear “No, you’re going to stay here.” There was a hint of lust in the blonde’s tone and the simple demand was erotic and sexy by itself.

“Elizabeth, what are we doing? This is not lucid on any level” Savannah exclaimed nervously as the brunette straddled her kissing the blonde’s neck roughly. “Since when are we lucid at all? Relax V, it’s just kissing but if you’re uncomfortable, I’ll stop” Elizabeth replied running her fingers through the blonde’s golden locks. Savannah sighed relaxing, she knew the brunette would never push her past her comfort zone but the blonde wanted that, she needed it. “No, don’t stop. It’s just your kisses drive me wild, you know, they’re a drug. I can’t think when you’re so close to me it’s like the ultimate high and honestly it scares the shit out of me but I like it” the blonde replied honestly stroking Elizabeth’s back with the tips of her fingers. The small circular motions that the blonde was making with her nails was driving Elizabeth wild. “Don’t think then, just act upon your body’s impulse” the brunette quickly closed the space between them by kissing the blonde passionately and pressing her body against Savannah’s. The blonde’s brain seemed to fog as she followed her body’s urges. Elizabeth was surprised when she felt Savannah’s hands roaming her bare skin of her back and stifled a moan when the blonde’s tongue entered her mouth. The brunette couldn’t deny she liked the dominant side Savannah had mentioned but not shown until now. All the blonde wanted to do was ravish Elizabeth’s body just as she had done with many other women but this just wasn’t another woman, it was the only woman who Savannah had ever loved and she deserved to be treated like it. Don’t go there, Vann. This is the love of your life here not another one night stand. You’re both not emotionally ready for this and don’t you want your first time to be special? Savannah pulled away after realizing they weren’t ready for this especially the blonde. She wanted to have a clear head and doubt free so she give herself wholly to the woman she loved. Elizabeth needed time to cope with the loss of her marriage and no matter how hard the brunette tried; she couldn’t hide the sadness in those green orbs. Savannah knew this woman inside and out; she could tell Elizabeth felt like she had failed at being a wife and a mother. That was one thing the brunette wanted more than life itself, children, it was Elizabeth’s destiny to be a mother. And Savannah knew the brunette felt more insecure about that than anything else. Elizabeth opened her eyes confused “Something wrong?” she asked. The blonde chuckled and lovingly placed her hands on the brunette’s cheeks “We’re not emotionally ready for this, Liz. Don’t get me wrong I’m finding it more difficult every day to resist you but I want to wait till we’re ready. When I’m completely doubt and fear free about us and you’ve had time to cope with the loss of your marriage” Elizabeth looked down into their laps and shrugged “I don’t need to cope, I’m totally okay with it” she replied. Savannah brought up the brunette’s chin staring into those eyes that held so much hurt “You can’t hide it. You feel like you’ve failed at being a wife, a home maker, and a mother” the blonde exclaimed. Elizabeth felt a hot stream of tears course through her eyelids as they started flowing they couldn’t stop and Savannah simply held the brunette in her arms.

“I know you’ll be a mother one day, Liz” Savannah spoke softly as she stroked Elizabeth’s back. “I hope so” the brunette replied wiping her tears. Savannah smiled warmly “I think we’re both emotionally drained. How about I put a movie on and we’ll cuddle up on the couch to rest and order Chinese?” The brunette returned the smile nodding “That sounds great” she replied. Savannah got up to retrieve some pillows and a blanket then ordered Chinese delivery. Both women settled in on the plush comfy couch as the comedy they’d chosen started. Before too long their dinner was delivered and they watched their movie while enjoying a delicious meal. It was peaceful and settling for them, they both loved this feeling. Elizabeth brought her knees up on the couch and laid into Savannah’s embrace. They sighed happily; both were satisfied for once in their life. This is nice; I could lay here forever Elizabeth thought as the blonde played with her hair. As the movie played they joined in laughter at the hilarious actions or dialogue of the characters. Soon after the movie ended both women fell asleep together, Savannah still spooning the brunette.

They woke up the next morning fully rested. “I wish I didn’t have work today” Savannah admitted running her fingers along Elizabeth’s face. “Me too, I could lay here all day just staring into your eyes” Elizabeth replied smiling. “Sounds so tempting. I would if I didn’t have a meeting with Ms. Kennedy today” the blonde said smirking. “She reconsidered another meeting?” Elizabeth asked. Savannah nodded “Yeah, but that doesn’t mean I’ll get the job” she answered. “You’ll get it, darling. Just turn on that Lee charm and she won’t be able to deny you” the brunette chuckled and gave the blonde a quick kiss. Savannah rolled her eyes before leaning in for another kiss and getting up to change. “I also have that appointment today after work” Savannah said sighing and groaning. “I have a teacher conference after my 4th period. So, I won’t be here till 7:00pm” Elizabeth replied. “I’ll be home around 6:00pm so I’ll cook us dinner” Savannah exclaimed as she finished the last buttons on her suit. The brunette smiled as she approached the blonde giving her a soft kiss “You’re amazing” she whispered in the blonde’s ear. “I hope I’ll never be any less than amazing for you” Savannah dipped her head in for another kiss filled with passion and pure love. “I’ve got to go. Have a great day at work! See you for dinner” the blonde said smiling as she walked out the door.

“Ms. Kennedy, you won’t be sorry! My firm will handle your business finances and grants excellently, we won’t let you down. Thank you for the opportunity!” Savannah exclaimed as she shook Francis Kennedy’s hand. Their meeting had gone great and Ms. Kennedy had been won over by the blonde’s professional attitude and charm. She liked Savannah Lee and was impressed with how the blonde’s confidence and capabilities. “Oh, darling, don’t thank me! I should be thanking you! I’m now starting to wish I hadn’t cancelled our first meeting. Forgive me, my daughter got into some legal issues and I had to be present a.s.a.p.” Francis replied shaking Savannah’s hand. The two women walked out the blonde’s office and down the hall. “It was totally understandable, Ms. Kennedy, no apologies needed” the blonde gave the older woman a reassuring smile. “Please, call me Francis. And I wish my daughter, Christina, was more like you. She’s actually flying in town in a couple days and I would like for you two to meet?” Francis suggested plotting things in her mind. “I, uh, don’t know Francis. Are you sure your daughter would be up for that?” Savannah asked trying to get out of the situation. Francis chuckled nodding “Of course she would! Come on, you could be good for her!” she pressed touching the blonde’s shoulder. Savannah sighed knowing she couldn’t deny the woman’s request and turned on her most charming smile “Okay, okay.” Francis beamed with delight as she through her hands up in a giddy display “Great! I’m having a dinner party at the Beverly Hills hotel Thursday night, it starts at 7:00pm, come join us!” The blonde nodded as she held the front entrance open for Francis to step out “I’ll be there” she replied. The older woman waved as she walked off and shouted “Great! Bye darling!” Savannah waved back as her fake smile turned into a worried frown. Ray noticed his boss’s frustrated appearance. She had her hand on her forehead and leaning up against the wall breathing deeply. “What is wrong Ms. Lee?” Ray asked concerned, hadn’t everything gone well? “Oh, nothing Ray just a headache. Will you remind me before lunch on Wednesday to go shopping for a dress?” Savannah asked pacing around her assistants desk. Elizabeth is not going to like the idea of me attending a party to meet my boss’s daughter… oh shit, we’re not even together, why do I feel like it’s wrong? Pull yourself together! Just attend the party and satisfy your BIGGEST client. “Sure thing Ms. Lee! Oh, and you have your appointment with Ms. Rowley in a bit” Ray replied. Savannah snapped from her thoughts and grabbed her things rushing out the door. She had her therapy appointment in 30 minutes and had totally forgotten.

Teach Me Love. Chapter 12.

“So when do you plan to talk to Elizabeth?” Rose asked as they sat down at their table. After spending the whole morning and part of the afternoon visiting art galleries they stopped at a nearby café for a late lunch. “I’m going to see if we can meet up tomorrow and talk” Savannah replied. “Good, I’ll make sure to be out of the house” Rose said casually and smiled. The blonde shook her head “No, you’re welcome to stay we probably won’t even be at my place. We’ll probably go out to dinner or something. That is, even if she wants to talk to me…” Rose held up her hand “Nonsense, you know she will. And I want to pay Dakota, Ty, and their babies a visit anyways. So just in case you need the house I won’t be a problem.” Savannah chuckled and gave her sister a smug smile “I know you’re seriously not thinking…?” the blonde asked. Rose shrugged and held up her hands “You never know baby girl. I know you and your effect on women too well” Rose replied referring to many nights Savannah had brought girls home. The blonde laughed even more and sipped her water. “She’s not just another one of my women though; she’s the woman, Rose. I’d never do such” Savannah admitted sincerely. Rose nodded and gave her sister a warm smile. “I know you wouldn’t baby girl” Rose replied.

The next day Savannah got up and got dressed. Rose and she had breakfast together and Rose left to spend the day with Dakota’s family. The blonde sat nervously on the couch clutching her cell phone. She took a deep breath and dialed Elizabeth’s number. A familiar voice answered “Savannah?” The blonde’s face lite up at the sound of her name. “Hey, Elizabeth, I um wanted to see if we could meet up today to talk?” Savannah asked biting her lip. “I don’t know, Savannah, are you going to tell me something that’s going to break my heart? If so I’d rather not” the brunette replied in a harsh tone. “No… I wanted to apologize for walking out. I should had stayed and talked my feelings out with you. I was afraid and fled when I got the chance” Savannah admitted. “Yeah, you should’ve. It killed me, Savannah. To watch you walk away, it killed me. But I don’t look that great to go out in public today and Rick’s having friends over for the game. Can I come over to your place and we talk?” Elizabeth asked. The blonde chuckled at what her sister had sister the previous day and momentarily the brunette was waiting for an answer. “What’s so funny?” the brunette asked. Savannah snapped from the memory and replied “Oh, um, nothing. Sure you can but what about Rick?” Elizabeth sighed and answered “He won’t care. I’ll just tell him I’m going over to Miranda’s” The blonde caught on to the mention of another woman and was immediately interested. “Who’s Miranda?” Savannah asked. Elizabeth chuckled “Another choral instructor at UCLA” The blonde felt bad she had forgotten Elizabeth started her new job this week. “How’s the new job going?” Savannah asked. “Great, hey, I’m coming on over. I’ll tell you in a bit”

It took about 30 minutes before Elizabeth arrived. The blonde greeted the brunette and noticed her appearance. Elizabeth was in a tank top and sweat pants with her hair down in a wavy mess but a beautiful mess. The brunette could feel the blonde’s orbs examining her “Sorry, I didn’t change because Rick was gone and I wanted to leave before he came home.” Savannah smiled and shook her head “You look gorgeous as ever” the blonde replied. Elizabeth felt her cheeks turn red and she returned the smile. Savannah poured them some coffee and they sat in the patio swing beside the pool. “I just want to start by saying I’m sorry I left and refused to talk to you” Savannah said breaking the silence. “Why did you leave?” Elizabeth asked. The blonde placed her cup on the table beside the swing and turned back to the brunette. “I thought you were trying to hurt me again. I felt as if you were trying to pick up where we left off and assume all the pieces were put back together. My brain reacted before my heart could. It played over all the years I cried waiting to hear from you and how long I spent loathing myself for what I had done. It said ‘you can’t put yourself through that again’ so I did the only thing I know how, I ran away. Anytime things start to get emotional or painful I run. It’s a security thing nothing personal against you. I was so selfish. But then I looked at things from your point of view and understood why you never tried to contact me. I was so angry with you, Elizabeth, after you admitted you’ve loved me I kept thinking ‘why didn’t she let me know? Didn’t she know how much hell I’ve put myself through when just a single phone could have ended that” Elizabeth softly stroked the blonde’s face and smiled “I understand perfectly sweetie, don’t apologize anymore. I should have considered your feelings as well but after you walked out on me I realized how much hell I did put you through. When you refused to talk to me and completely shut me out, I felt as if my world had been torn apart. I was so lost. I admit I should have listened to my heart instead of my pride and called you or contacted you. I’m sorry that you spent 15 years hoping I’d come back, so sorry” Savannah felt tears of joy roll down her cheeks and shook her head “I’m not because you did come back, I don’t regret it, I have you now, that’s all I’ve ever wanted” The brunette couldn’t control her urge any longer and wrapped her arms around the blonde.

The two women talked about Elizabeth’s new job and about the previous weekend for the rest of the morning and into the late afternoon. “Hey, why don’t we get in the pool?” Elizabeth asked raising an eyebrow. “We don’t have bathing suits and I don’t think that’s a good idea” Savannah replied. The brunette gave the blonde a mischievous smile and stepped to the edge of the pool turning towards Savannah. “Who said we needed bathing suits?” Elizabeth asked and stripped down to her lace under garments diving into the pool gracefully. Oh god, Savannah if you get into that pool you won’t be coming out. Keep calm and don’t think about her body. Don’t think about her body. Oh shit! I’m thinking about it… Elizabeth splashes Savannah interrupting the blonde in her thoughts. “Don’t make go get you!” the brunette shouted and pointed to the water. Savannah gave her a smug smile and thought to herself oh, you’re not the only one who can play this teasing game. The blonde stripped down to her thin sexy under garments. Elizabeth swallowed nervously as she watched the gorgeous blonde climb into the water. Holy shit, I never knew she looked that damn good!? Where does someone get a body like that? Elizabeth, distract yourself don’t focus on that body of a goddess. Oh god, she’s swimming this way. “Hi” Savannah said in a low tone swimming behind the brunette. “Hey” Elizabeth replied back flirtatiously. The blonde immediately caught onto the brunette’s tone and smiled smugly. “A little bit flirty are we?” Savannah teased backing the brunette up to the edge of the pool. Elizabeth rested her back against the wall of the pool and bit her lip as the blonde swam closer. “In your dreams, darling” the brunette teased back. Savannah raised her eyebrow smiling as she leaned in closer to the brunettes face and placing her hands against the wall. “No, in my dreams you do a lot more than flirt” the blonde replied in a husky tone. Elizabeth’s became ragged as she grew more excited by the second the blonde leaned in closer with each second. The brunette closed her eyes as their lips were about to come in contact but after a few seconds of nothing she opened her eyes. “It’s getting cold don’t you think?” Savannah asked a hint of humor in her voice. Elizabeth scoffed agitated and huffed as she got out the pool. The blonde followed her snickering the whole way.

Savannah had dried off and put on her pajamas as well as Elizabeth except slipped back on her sweats. They put their wet laundry in the dryer and walked into the kitchen to prepare something to eat. The blonde had on some pasta and heating tomato sauce for spaghetti. Elizabeth was sitting at the table observing the blonde intently. “I’m divorcing Rick” the brunette blurted out. Savannah turned around and leaned against the kitchen counter. “Elizabeth…” Savannah started to protest but was caught off by Elizabeth approaching her dangerously close. The brunette looked into the blonde’s hazel orbs and shook her head “I want you” Elizabeth admitted. “But it’s been over month…” Again, the blonde was stopped by the brunette placing a finger over her lips. “I’ve loved you all this time. I’m not going to wait any longer to pursue it. I’ve missed lost 15 years without you don’t make me wait any longer. Don’t think about anything else except your heart right now. Tell me what it says.” Elizabeth spoke in a soft loving whisper that made Savannah go weak at the knees. “I want this too. I’ve wanted it for a while” the blonde replied. Elizabeth smiled and leaned against the blonde giving her a soft kiss. As the kiss grew passionate Savannah wrapped her arms around Elizabeth pulling her closer. Their tongues wildly danced together as they continued a heavy make-out session lasting for what seemed like forever. The women groaned as they were interrupted by the kitchen timer going off. Savannah laughed and stepped away to finish preparing the food. Elizabeth leaned against the counter smiling. “You know we still have a lot to work on. There’s so much I don’t want to tell you but I think you should know” Savannah blurted out. The brunette understood completely what the blonde was talking about. They did have a lot of scabbed over wounds that needed to be reopened and properly taken care of. “I think I should go to therapy” Savannah suggested sighing. “That wouldn’t be such a bad idea. You know, after I get the divorce settled we should go together. I think it would help us a lot” Elizabeth replied. The blonde smiled reluctantly as the brunette softly embraced her. “I think that would be a wonderful idea. Are you really serious about this… about us?” Savannah asked stroking Elizabeth’s face tenderly. “I’m as serious as I’ll ever be. I think we can have a beautiful relationship after we resolve our insecurities. I’m willing to work at that if you are” The blonde was touched, she felt a stray tear of happiness roll down her cheek as she hugged the brunette tightly.

Teach Me Love. Chapter 11.

Savannah drove home as quickly as she possibly could teary eyed and heart beating rapidly. She felt as if she was heading for an emotional breakdown. This was all too much to consider at once. Why did Elizabeth have to admit that she loved her- had loved her for years now? Of all times, when Savannah felt that she could possibly move on from her she had admitted the one thing the blonde had hoped to hear for many years. Honestly, Savannah felt angry at the brunette for being somewhat selfish. If she loved the blonde for all these years why not admit it years ago rather than now? When both of them had settled into different lifestyles and almost into their later adulthood? Wasn’t it too late to start over to go back and try to fix things that were so damaged, so abolished and now… so fragile? The blonde felt a flood of tears cast down her hot cheeks and violent pangs against her heart. She loved Elizabeth without a single doubt but the blonde also knew she had to do what was right for her own heart. Savannah had to let go Elizabeth once and for all. Some things you couldn’t pick back up and carry on from; it was far too late for both of them. Savannah pulled into her driveway and wiped her eyes that now resembled a raccoon’s. The blonde entered her lonely house just stopping to put her pocket book on the kitchen counter. This is where she would have one last cry. Savannah poured herself some brandy and went to her bedroom. She pulled out a little brown box with rusted brass hinges and slowly opened it. Each photograph and item held bittersweet memories of her and Elizabeth. The blonde sipped her brandy and carefully reviewed each object sacredly. They held special places to her heart. As she reached the bottom of the box the blonde reached for a specific photograph. This photograph was the last one they’d take before their friendship ended. They were at the beach and Savannah was wearing swimming trunks and a tank top with sunglasses. Her hair was a blonde beautiful mess in wet wild curls. Elizabeth was wearing a pink bikini with her hair in a huge bun on the center of her head. The brunette had jumped on Savannah’s back surprising the blonde. The photograph showed them smiling at each other while laughing as Elizabeth hopped onto her friends back. Savannah held the photo close to her heart as she had many times and sobbed from the depths of her soul. It was time to let it out and let go.

Rick was lying beside his mistress, Nina, in her apartment. These weekends he spent with Nina were referred to as “business trips” and no one knew differently. If the secret about him cheating got out his reputation would be ruined. Although, he did love Nina, he had to keep this affair on the down low until he could plan out how he could divorce Elizabeth without it getting out. They had been seeing each other off and on secretly for about two years now and Nina was getting tired of waiting for Rick. “Rick?” Nina whispered turning on her side to face the man lying beside her. “Yes?” he replied smiling gently. “When are we going to actually get to be together?” She asked her eyes pleading. Rick sighed, she had asked this numerous times already. “It’s not that simple Nina. I can’t just slap a divorce in my wife’s face right now” Rick answered. Nina groaned aggravated and rolled her eyes. “Why not Rick? From what you tell me she probably wants one too” Nina pressed. He laughed and shook his head “Elizabeth would never leave me. She needs me too much. If it wasn’t for me she wouldn’t be able to stand on her own two feet now” he exclaimed. Nina raised her eyebrow and snickered “That’s what you think.” Rick’s expression became sullen and knitted his brows “I don’t have time for your immaturity” he responded as he got up. Nina was flustered by the impossible man and got up herself to stop Rick from leaving. “I’m immature!? You’re the one leaving because of something you know is true! She doesn’t need you Rick!” Nina shouted her tone growing emotional. “Rick, I need you, please don’t leave” she pleaded trying to hold onto him. Rick shook her embrace and started for the door. Nina caught his hand tears flowing from her eyes. “Rick, I’m pregnant with your baby.” He froze in his tracks as the realization of Nina’s words hit him. He was shocked and happy all at once. As seconds pass his selfish nature takes over leading him to think about how this would affect his life. “What do you suppose we do?” he asked. Nina shrugged “Do you want it?” she asked. “Of course I do but… how do you expect me to be a part of its life?” Rick inquired. Nina scoffed as she pushed him out the door. “Figure it out Rick! You’re so fucking selfish!” she shouted and slammed the door. It looked like he’d be having that talk with Elizabeth soon.

The weekend crawled by as Monday slowly approached. Elizabeth would start her new job as a music professor at UCLA. It was Monday morning and she was rushing nervously to prepare for work. “Laptop…check, suitcase…check, books…check, thesis…check, choral handbook…check, and glasses…check” Elizabeth called out to herself, she was all set for work. The brunette had dressed in her nicest black power suit with heels and her hair was down in natural waves. Elizabeth loaded the back seat of her Mercedes Benz with all her supplies and after fixing her makeup one last time she headed towards the university. “Hi, I’m Elizabeth Booker the new music instructor” the brunette introduced herself to the dean of the arts department, Francis Shelley. “Hi, Professor Booker, we’re glad to have you! Let me show you to your office” the dean replied. “Wow it’s big. I love it!” Elizabeth exclaimed observing her finely furnished office. “I’m glad it suits your tastes Professor Booker. Now I assume you’ve studied the curriculum and have your course outline?” Dean Shelley asked. Elizabeth nodded she had studied it numerous times to be honest. “Then I’ll stop by and see you at lunch to ask how your classes went. If you have any questions don’t hesitate to call my office or stop by.” Elizabeth smiled and shook the dean’s hand “See you at lunch Dean Shelley” she replied. “Please, call me Francis. Goodbye.” The brunette’s first two periods went by extremely well. The students seemed to like her and she was enjoying teaching them. Elizabeth was also relieved this job would be a distraction so she could get her mind off of a certain blonde that refused to return her calls. At lunch Elizabeth sat with Francis and the other teachers of the arts department. They were all very nice and down to earth just as the brunette. One teacher in particular stood out because she seemed to welcome Elizabeth more than the others. The two ladies engaged in a lengthy discussion over lunch about their interests and lives. As the end of the day approached Elizabeth sat her desk completely overwhelmed with happiness. The day had gone by so well and as planned. She really loved this job and the staff.

Savannah hadn’t shown up for work in four days and her assistant was worried the blonde had become seriously ill or something. Savannah had turned off her cell phone, unplugged the house phone, and locked the house up with her inside it. She was moping and dwelling in her sadness. The blonde hadn’t ate in days or bathed; she didn’t care about anyone or anything at the moment. Her life completely sucked and was meaningless. That’s how she wanted to feel, completely meaningless and wanted to be left alone to dabber in her misery. Dakota, Tyler, and Elizabeth had all stopped by to talk but Savannah just covered her head with a pillow and went back to sleep. It was approaching almost a week since her and the brunette had talked and truth be told Savannah didn’t have anything to say to Elizabeth. The blonde heard violent banging on the door and threw the covers over her head groaning. “Savannah Victoria Lee, you best open this door right now! Don’t make me bust this door down!” a female voice roared. Savannah’s eyes widen in shock. Why was her sister here!? Rose wasn’t supposed to visit for another month! Rose was the blonde’s older sister by 10 years and practically raised Savannah. The blonde climbed slowly out of her bed as Rose continued her rant on the door. “Leave me alone Rose” Savannah groaned. “Open the damn door and stop being so stubborn!” the sister protested firmly. The blonde sighed giving up and opened the door. Rose was completely dumbfounded by her sister’s appearance; Savannah never looked this sloppy in all her day. “What’s this I hear about you not showing up for work and refusing to talk to your friends?” Rose asked. “Who told you!?” the blonde questioned angrily. “Ray. He was worried about you Vann, we all are. Now why don’t you go wash up and changed clothes while I whip you up some food then we’ll talk” Rose suggested calmly hugging her baby sister. Savannah sighed comfortably into the older woman’s embrace and nodded.

Savannah returned in some different clothes and cleaned hair but her face was still the same. She had bags under her raw eyes and her skin was pallor than normal. Rose only knew one thing that could make her sister like this, women. Savannah sat at her polished oak table and devoured her sister’s amazing cooking. Two pieces of fried chicken, a big helping of green beans, and a mountain of mash potatoes were gone in under five minutes. “Sometimes tasting your cooking makes me miss home for a split second” Savannah admitted. Rose chuckled and sat beside her sister “You seriously don’t miss the good ole south sis?” The blonde scoffed and shook her head “No way. I promised myself after grandma died I’d never step foot in that county again. I don’t know why you stayed Rose. You have so many opportunities here” Savannah replied. Rose patted her sisters back “It’s the only place I’ve ever known. The city life isn’t for me baby girl. Now enough about me, tell me what’s wrong lil’ V?” Savannah leaned back in her seat and sighed deeply. “Elizabeth stays in West Hollywood now…” the blonde said. Rose’s eyes widened as she now realized perfectly why her sister was so torn up. “You’ve seen her?” Rose asked. The blonde nodded and continued “We went out last weekend as friends and then she kissed me at the club and I let her. Then we just kissed and kissed. I drove her home and she was sick throwing up then she asked me to stay the night and I did. The next morning she admitted to have loved me all these years… and I left” Rose was confused and shocked. Why was her sister torn up about the girl of her dreams admitting she loved her? And why had Savannah just walked out? “I thought she was the love of your life baby girl?” Rose asked rubbing her sister’s back. Savannah fought back tears “She is and always will be but she’s married, Rose. Also I spent 15 years waiting on her and building my hopes up. Now when I’m finally moving on she’s came back and wants to try again? Sometimes it’s too late and you can’t fix things. Why would she do and say those things knowing it wouldn’t work between us and knowing how much I’ve hurt over her? If she’s loved me all this time why didn’t she fucking say something!? Instead of me putting myself through torment all those years and hating myself!? I will not let her screw my heart again” Savannah roared trembling. Rose grabbed her sister and held her comforting the blonde until her sobs calmed. “Now baby girl, look at this from Elizabeth’s point of view. Remember how much pain and hurt you caused her. You two were best friends and loved each other so much. She confided in you and you broke her. How do you think she felt all these years? I don’t think she’s trying to hurt you again lil’ V. I think she’s finally following her heart. You’re afraid, I know, but hey you need to at least talk to her. Do you really want to be 50 years old before you two talk again?” Rose’s tone was sincere but comforting; she could always help Savannah realize things clearly. The blonde shook her head “No, I don’t sis. Thanks for helping me realize some things and comforting me. How long are you staying in town for?” Rose shrugged and smiled “As long as it takes me to get my little sister back on her feet” she replied. Savannah hugged her older sister (which was an older version of Savannah) tightly and they spent the rest of the night catching up.

“Hey sis, how bout’ we cruise around Los Angeles today? Maybe go to an art gallery and grab a bite?” Savannah asked as she walked into the kitchen smelling her sister’s glorious cooking. “Lil’ V don’t you have work today?” Rose asked. The blonde shrugged as she picked at the grapes Rose had laid out for breakfast. “I’m my own boss. I’ve already got all my cases lined up and I don’t have any court dates till next month. Come on, I’ve been out since Monday what’s another day going to hurt? I bet Ray is having a party with a few of his guy friends wrecking my office, what kind of boss would I be to have to kill him?” Savannah joked. Rose swatted her out of the kitchen “Okay, okay. Now stop eating those grapes or you’ll get full! Oh, and go take a shower!” Rose insisted. “Wow, you’re turning into grandma more and more every day!” the blonde replied. Rose chuckled and went back to cooking.
